Rooted in Jesus discipleship course starts on 30th November 2019

This three year course, part funded by the Barnabas Fund and a private donor, will be launched in the Diocese on 30th November 2019.  It is being managed by Reverend Canon Lameck Masambi

Rooted in Jesus is designed for African discipleship. It is interactive, effective for people of any educational level and uses small discussion groups for teaching.  The emphasis is on the active participation of each member of the group. The material is absorbed and practised orally, and only the Group Leader needs to be able to read and write. Each lesson is summarised by a memory verse, and members receive certificates when the group completes each of the four books of the course.

The Rooted in Jesus blog about this inaugural comference is here.

The programme was introduced to approximately 130 pastors, catechists and evangelists at a four day conference from 5 - 8 November 2019.  At the end of the conference each participant was presented with the course books, written in Swahili, and their certificates.

The following week, Rev Canon Lameck Masambi attended the annual Rooted in Jesus conference, in Moshi, for coordinators from more than 80 dioceses in 16 African countries. This was a well timed opportunity for him to meet others in similar roles and to learn more about delivering the programme across the Diocese.

“The Lord appointed seventy-two others ... He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.”  Luke 10: 1-3
