Community development
Humekwa Parish is one of seventeen parishes in the diocese, taking part in the Church and Community Mobilization Programme. The CCMP is a Bible-based, guided training approach that local churches are using with their communities to identify the resources they have, then work together, to bring about long-lasting, whole-life change.
As local communities work through the process, they decide which activities will bring about the most effective and positive outcomes for them, given their current situations.
In Humekwa, the CCMP training has brought significant spiritual, social, and physical transformation. Church attendance and giving has increased, and members have improved their building by upgrading the flooring, walls, electrical systems, and purchasing 120 chairs. They have also bought bricks to build a new pastor’s house. The youth have formed a new choir and cultivated five acres of land, using the proceeds to buy musical instruments and sound equipment for the church.
Gender rights awareness training has been shared with youth and schoolchildren, and the community now has processes to resolve any issues of inequality or abuse and women have formed their own leadership team to address specific issues and ensure their voices are heard. The church uses creative arts—music, mime, poetry, and drama—to communicate the transformative impact of the CCMP,
Putting training on climate-smart agriculture into practice.

Four savings and loan groups that have been formed. Group members are saving money together, and taking out affordable loans to invest in farming and livestock initiatives or start small business enterprises. The groups are open to all other denominations and sects, and help to meet people's immediate needs and work together on shared community development projects.
