Ombiri Parish

The parish
There are three churches at Ombiri, Mloka and Moi. The pastor is Rev. William Vicent.
The catechist at Mloka is Moses Chilemela.
Community development
Ombiri took part in the Church and Community Mobilization Programme (CCMP) from 2023-2025. The CCMP is funded by St James Church, in the UK Diocese of Rochester.
CCMP impacts
The training has helped the church and community identify various local challenges. New choirs have helped the church to grow and young people and children are more actively involved in church life. After the training, the young people were inspired to organize themselves and cultivate a maize field. They used the proceeds from the harvest to purchase musical instruments and sound equipment, and are now actively involved in singing and participating in church activities.
Additionally, four savings and credit groups have been established: Jitegeme, Kazi Daima, Songambele and Ushindi helping people to set up small business enterprises such as cooking small plates of food to sell along the roadside and at the market
In June 2025, St James Church visited the parish and the visitors are pictured below, with the Village Chairman (centre), who explained that the CCMP has helped to foster good working relationships between Christians and Muslims.. He endorsed the CCMP as a good, sustainable model for community-led development.
