Community development

Ombiri is one of seventeen parishes in the Diocese taking part in the Church and Community Mobilization Programme (CCMP) from 2023-2025. CCMP is a Bible-based, guided training approach that a local church can use with its community to identify the resources they have, then, working together, bring about long-lasting, whole-life change. The CCMP is funded by St James Church, in the UK Diocese of Rochester.

CCMP impacts

After attending the CCMP workshops, the facilitators shared what they had learned with church members and the wider community of Ombiri. The training helped them identify various challenges facing their church and community.New choirs have helped the church to grow and young people and children and more actively involved in church life. After the training, the young people were inspired to organize themselves and cultivate a maize field. They used the proceeds from the harvest to purchase musical instruments and sound equipment, and they are now actively involved in singing and participating in church activities.  Additionally, four savings and credit groups have been established: Jitegeme, Kazi Daima, Songambele and Ushindi helping people to set up small business enterprises.

In June 2025, members from St James Church visited the parish, to hear about the impacts of the CCMP. The  visitors are pictured below, with the Village Chairman (centre), who explained that the church and community have a good working relationship and endorsed the CCMP as a good model for community-led development.
