We are delighted to report that this project is proving successful for a second year. The pictures below were taken on the same day in April 2017. They show the drought resistant maize planted on Bishop Given's farm and compare this with the normal maize sown on a neighbour's farm. The pictures tell their own story. This project is being supported by Christ Church, Orpington http://ccorpington.org/ in our partner Diocese of Rochester UK. This year we trialled two types of seeds:Punda Milia and DK. The seeds were distributed to all 60 pastors and every participant attended a seminar on best practice for growing maize. The lack of rain has been a problem in some areas, even drought resistant maize needs some rain. Please continue to pray for good rain so that the crops can grow and ripen. This picture shows the seed leaving the Diocese and the bags being delivered to the pastors in Mpendo deanery. Last year, the project was monitored and managed by Sabrina Derham and Moses Kasichi and for 2017 it has been handed over to Canon Mollel and Canon Lameck Masambi, Mission, Evangelism and Clergy Coordinator. The picture below is of the maize growing well in the first year of the project, 2016.
