Community development
Makorongo is one of seventeen parishes in the Diocese that have taken part in the Church and Community Mobilization Programme (CCMP). The CCMP is delivered by the Department of Development and is playing a key role in diocesan life, combining evangelism, discipleship and self-reliance. From 2026 to 2028 nine new parishes are taking part in the education and training. The CCMP is funded by James Church in the Diocese of Rochester, UK.
The CCMP created a new awareness in Makorongo, which brought tremendous spiritual, social and economic changes to the church and community. One of the impacts has been that the church started a 'home visitation programme' to reach out to the neediest in the community. They also set up a monthly open market in the village.
The formation of savings and loan groups has helped to fund projects at Khubunko, such as building the catechist's house and cementing the church floor. Members of the Church have saved money to purchase a new music system, which has been used in a public crusade to spread the gospel at the open market.
Groups have also been established for women entrepreneurs, who sell a variety of goods at the local market, and they have used the proceeds to meet their household needs.
Rev John Lusolo has led a chicken project for the parish, which started in January 2025. Further information is available here.
