Bee-keeping

Beekeeping Alan and MpangalaThe Diocese is working to build its financial capacity in a number of ways and this bee-keeping project is a good example.

The photo on the left is of Simon Mpangala, the bee-keeping expert, who is supporting this project in Kondoa and Alan Smith who is the link with Rochester Diocese and is a bee-keeper in the UK.

Over the years, All Saints Church in Brenchley (Rochester Diocese UK) has been supporting this project and, most recently, 52 modern hives have been purchased and installed in the trees. Already the bees are settling into their new homes!

The photos below show the new hives having beeswax smeared inside them so that bees are attracted; wires being attached and then hanging the hives in the trees where they are protected from wild animals and, on the same day, one hive already being visited by bees seeking a new home.
