Community development.

Sanzawa is one of seventeen parishes that have taken part in the Church and Community Mobilization Programme. The CCMP is a Bible-based, guided training approach that a local churches are using with their communities to identify the resources they have, then, working together, bring about long-lasting, whole-life change.

As local communities work through the process, they decide which activities will bring about the most effective and positive outcomes for them given their current situations. The training has included bible-study, climate-smart agricultural techniques, and the formation and mobilization of self-help groups.

CCMP impacts
After receiving the training, the church and village community have progressed well in their development activities, and in generating projects.

In the church, bible studies have motivated many church members to get more involved in serving the church by leading worship services, preaching, mission and evangelism and other activities. The increase in stewardship among church members has helped to pay pastor stipends and other church administration costs and they are building a new church.

Before the training, the women in Sanzawa walked a long way to the nearest water source to collect water. After the training, people became motivated to dig down deep enough to find water, and there is now a local well. The community can now grow a wider variety of vegetables, irrigate their crops and implement the new agricultural methods they have learned about.

Many church members have engaged in entrepreneurial activities, such as growing crops and animal husbandry. There is unity and cooperation in many social and economic aspects of life, where the church and community engage in producing food crops together, like sunflowers.

In Sanzawa village, there are four strong, self-help groups: - the Zinduka group, Umoja wetu group, Mshikamano and the Tumaini group. In Sanzawa village, there are four strong, self-help groups: - the Zinduka group, Umoja wetu group, Mshikamano and the Tumaini group. These groups have increased their income, and members are paying children’s school fees, building better houses and paying for medical expenses.
